Robi Axiata PLC has grown profit more than fivefold since its landmark stock market listing in 2020, with rising data consumption, network investment and stronger operational efficiency driving its performance over the past five years.
In a press meet marking the fifth anniversary of its IPO, Robi Managing Director and CEO Ziad Shatara said governance, strategic investment and digital transformation have remained central to the company’s growth strategy since becoming a publicly listed company.
Robi, which entered the capital market through the country’s largest IPO at the time in 2020, said its profit after tax increased to Tk937 crore in 2025 from Tk180 crore in 2021.
Revenue rose to Tk9,992 crore in 2025 from Tk8,142 crore in 2021, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased to Tk4,979 crore from Tk3,308 crore during the period.
The company said profit after tax grew 29 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2026.
Since 2021, Robi has generated Tk2,819.13 crore in profit after tax through the first half of 2026 and distributed Tk2,854.67 crore in dividends.
Data drives expansion
Robi’s active subscriber base reached 5.86 crore by the second quarter of 2026, after adding 76.7 lakh subscribers since listing.
The company also added 1.1 crore internet users and 2.55 crore 4G users during the period, with internet users accounting for 78.9 per cent of total subscribers and 4G users representing 72 per cent.
Robi said data revenue accounted for 44.4 per cent of total revenue in the first half of 2026, up from 36 per cent in 2020, as customers increasingly shifted towards digital services.
Monthly data consumption exceeded 10 GB per data user, while the company’s data consumption market share reached 43.1 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to company presentation materials.
Average data usage per customer increased to 8.4 GB in the fourth quarter of 2025 from 2.7 GB in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Investment strengthens network
Robi invested Tk9,331.36 crore in network expansion between 2021 and the first half of 2026, excluding spectrum costs.
Its 4G sites increased to 19,646 from 13,173 since the end of 2020, while spectrum holdings expanded more than threefold to 124 MHz from 36.4 MHz.
The company said its revenue market share increased to 31.3 per cent in 2025 from 29.3 per cent in 2021, making it the largest contributor to industry revenue growth during the period.
Robi captured 64.6 per cent of new customer additions between 2021 and 2025, raising its customer market share to 30.8 per cent from 29.6 per cent, based on Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission data cited by the company.
Governance focus
Shatara said strong governance has provided the foundation for Robi’s sustainable growth, supported by board oversight and four board committees.
The company said it has strengthened data governance to protect customer privacy, manage cyber risks and ensure responsible deployment of artificial intelligence.
Robi said its EBITDA margin improved to 54.2 per cent in the first half of 2026 from the 2020 level, while operating profit margin increased to 23.1 per cent from 14.1 per cent.
Its digital ecosystem has expanded beyond telecommunications through platforms such as bdapps, bdtickets and enterprise technology arm Axentec.
Robi said bdapps now hosts more than 125,000 applications developed by 145,000 developers, who have collectively earned around Tk280 crore since its launch.
The company’s bdtickets platform serves more than 80,000 travellers daily through over 150 bus operators, while Axentec supports organisations in digital transformation initiatives.
Robi said 2.28 crore customers currently use its self-care applications, where artificial intelligence is used for network planning, personalised services and customer experience improvements.
The company said it will continue focusing on customer centricity, strategic investment, people development, operational excellence and continuous transformation to support long-term growth.
