Daffodil International University (DIU) launched its five-day Sustainability Week 2026 on Saturday, 10 October, with a dengue awareness campaign and community outreach activities, placing public well-being at the centre of its sustainability agenda.

The event, running until 14 October at the university’s Daffodil Smart City campus, is being held under the theme ‘Driving Actionable ESG Outcomes, Green Innovation, Youth Empowerment, and Community Well-Being’, with a focus on environmental protection, youth empowerment and community welfare, the university said in a press release.

Under the motto ‘Community First’, the opening programme began with speeches by DIU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Mohammed Masum Iqbal and the university’s Sustainability Wing adviser.

With the current dengue situation prompting concern, the university made prevention and public awareness the central focus of the inaugural day.

The adviser to the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences stressed the importance of dengue awareness, while the Head of the Department of Public Health provided students and community members with detailed guidelines on preventing the disease.

Following the discussion, participants brought out a dengue awareness rally from the campus.

A university team later visited neighbouring Dattapara and Birulia, conducting awareness activities among local residents to promote dengue prevention at the grassroots level.

Alongside the public health initiative, DIU launched its Social Business Exposure Program (SBEP), a business accelerator programme designed to develop innovative solutions to social problems.

The programme is being led by the Social Business Students’ Forum (SBSF) of DIU in collaboration with the university’s Sustainability Wing and Yunus Social Business Centre.

Over the five-day event, the campus will host social business development workshops, sessions for young entrepreneurs and other activities aimed at encouraging practical approaches to social challenges.

The sustainability week will continue at Daffodil Smart City until 14 October, bringing together initiatives focused on green innovation, youth empowerment and community well-being.
