Robert Pattinson’s latest film Primetime received an enthusiastic response at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, with the audience applauding for nine minutes after the screening ended on Saturday, 5 September.
Pattinson’s performance in a character inspired by Chris Hansen, the host of the reality show To Catch a Predator, left viewers particularly impressed.
His partner, Suki Waterhouse, was also present at the screening. As the applause continued, she embraced and congratulated the actor.
The audience also showed appreciation for director Lance Oppenheim and singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, who makes her acting debut in the film.
Produced by A24, Primetime is based on an article published in Esquire. The film explores how a television programme used complex sting operations to expose child sexual abusers.
The movie is competing for the prestigious Golden Lion at the festival. It is Oppenheim’s first feature-length narrative film after working primarily as a documentary filmmaker.
The project adds another notable achievement to Pattinson’s career. Several of his films have generated attention this year, while he also has major productions in the pipeline.
The actor is currently filming The Batman: Part II in London. He took a brief break from the production to attend the Venice premiere.
