The announcement of unofficial election results in Chittagong was delayed due to the mandatory verification process within the Result Management System (RMS) software, explained Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md Ziauddin.
Following the conclusion of the vote count, centre-based results were rapidly circulated on social media by polling agents, allowing candidates, supporters, and voters to informally gauge which candidates were leading.
However, the official administrative declaration of unofficial results took considerably longer, sparking widespread discussion.
Of the 16 parliamentary constituencies in Chittagong, unofficial results for only two were announced quickly, while the results for the remaining 14 were not released until after midnight.
The administration stated that this delay was a direct result of the implementation of new technology for result management.
Md Ziauddin clarified that the results are being compiled using the RMS (Result Management System) software. This system necessitates mandatory steps for the digital verification, cross-matching, and archiving of documents from every polling centre.
He noted that while previous methods allowed quicker announcements by simply totalling result sheets, the new digital process requires more time for data verification and archival storage.
The divisional commissioner emphasised that this digital method ensures the results process is more transparent and provides long-term preservation.
Furthermore, the stored data can be verified or accessed in the future with the permission of the Election Commission. He added that officials worked continuously to ensure the step-by-step compilation of the results.
Regarding the overall election environment, the divisional commissioner stated that voting was conducted peacefully across the Chittagong Division through the coordinated efforts of law enforcement and the administration.
He attributed the successful conclusion of the election without any casualties to these integrated preparations and expressed his gratitude to all relevant departments and staff.
The administration maintains that although the technology-driven verification process is time-consuming, it establishes a permanent and transparent foundation for future election management.
In the 16 parliamentary seats of Chittagong, BNP secured victory in 14 constituencies, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won the remaining two.
