BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday said the party carries the spirit of revolution and urged its leaders and activists not to lose hope but remain committed to hard work and the party’s ideals.
Speaking at a prayer programme for former Jubo Dal Vice-President Zakir Hossain Nannu at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Rizvi said no sacrifice goes in vain.
He said the end of “17 years of fascism” and the return of the party’s top leader to take oath as prime minister reflected the resilience and determination of BNP leaders and activists.
“There is nothing to be frustrated about. The void created by injustice will one day be filled with achievements,” he said.
Rizvi said BNP and its affiliated organisations, including Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Sramik Dal, were the “children of the historic November 7 Sepoy-Janata Revolution”.
He said the party was founded with the aim of establishing multiparty democracy and ensuring freedom of expression.
Referring to government initiatives, Rizvi said the expansion of family cards and distribution of farmer cards would benefit people within the next one or two years.
He said the successful implementation of such programmes would honour the sacrifices of dedicated leaders like Zakir Hossain Nannu.
Rizvi also questioned the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Major (retd) Muzaffar Hossain, a convicted killer in the murder case of former president Ziaur Rahman, after 45 years.
“Where was Major Muzaffar for 45 years? Which international or domestic forces provided him with shelter?” he asked.
He also criticised what he described as instances of foreign interference, referring to past cases of political figures taking shelter in neighbouring countries and reports of Awami League activists fleeing to India after the July-August student movement.
Rizvi demanded accountability over who sheltered those responsible for violence during the student-led movement.
BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad MP, Volunteers’ Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna and General Secretary Nurul Islam Noyon MP, among others, attended the programme.
