BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday alleged that the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was not natural, claiming it was the result of a calculated plan.
“Begum Khaleda Zia was slowly pushed to death through the negligence and torture directly by the then government. Sheikh Hasina is responsible for this death,” he said.
Rizvi made the remarks while attending special prayers at Dakeshwari Temple, organised by the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Front, to pray for the eternal peace of Begum Khaleda Zia.
Describing Khaleda Zia as a source of protection and strength, Rizvi said she stood as a guardian figure for the nation. “Just as a mother gives courage to her children, Khaleda Zia was an anchor for the whole nation,” he said.
He added, “Khaleda Zia never leaves the country in any situation. She was truly a mother of the entire nation, and she earned that place in the people’s heart.”
Rizvi further noted that even while confined to her home, her presence continued to inspire party leaders and activists. “Even while staying at home, her presence encouraged us. Particularly when we had tried to hold procession and talking for democracy during terrifying situations, Begum Zia was the source of inspiration,” he said.
Rizvi also alleged serious mistreatment during her imprisonment, claiming she entered jail in good health but returned home critically ill. He said there was severe negligence in providing proper medical care, medicine, and food, describing the situation as deliberate.
“So, I say that it was a ‘murder’ by Sheikh Hasina. The designated persons of the then government had done this offense. Khaleda Zia was pushed to death amid a plot,” he said.
Rizvi concluded by saying future generations would recognise her as a leader who avoided false promises and consistently worked to fulfill her pledges.
BNP national executive committee assistant organising secretary Aminul Islam, executive committee member Mahbubur Rahman and Debasish Roy Modhu, Chhatra Dal central committee vice-president Touhidur Rahman Awal and Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Front Central Committee President Aparna Roy attended the event.
