Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain made a crucial impact in Hobart Hurricanes’ Big Bash match against Sydney Sixers, dismissing Australian stars Steve Smith and Moises Henriques in the same over. He narrowly missed a third wicket, nearly securing a perfect spell in the qualifying battle for a spot in the final.
Rishad bowled economical first two overs without taking a wicket. In his third over, despite conceding some runs, he broke the key partnership by sending Smith and Henriques back to the pavilion.
Across four overs, Rishad conceded 33 runs while picking up two vital wickets. The Australian batsmen managed three boundaries and one six off him, but he also bowled six dot balls, applying pressure throughout.
After losing the toss, Sydney Sixers’ Smith and Daniel Hughes got off to a strong start. Hughes was dismissed for 13 by Billy Stanlake in the third over, but Smith and Josh Philippe rebuilt the innings with another partnership.
Rishad’s first two overs in the went wicketless. In his third over, Smith, tried a switch hit but misjudged the line and was bowled for 65. The final ball of the over produced another wicket, as Henriques went for a back-foot shot and edged to mid-on, caught by Chris Jordan.
Rishad’s final over was extremely tidy, conceding just four runs. The Sixers finished with a total of 198, with late contributions from Joel David (27) and Lachlan Sh (21). Riley Meredith took three wickets for Hobart Hurricanes.
