BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the only way to fulfill the promise made to the martyrs of the July mass uprising is to build a strong, sustainable democratic state.
Speaking at a public outreach event in Surajpur-Manikpur, Chakaria, on Friday, Salahuddin emphasised that both the victims of the uprising and the people of Bangladesh stand united in their commitment to establishing a true and functioning democracy.
Addressing a large crowd, Salahuddin stated, “The expectations of those who lost their sight, became disabled, or gave their lives during the uprising mirror the aspirations of every citizen, the establishment of a true and functional democracy.”
He further stressed that the nation needs a political system where autocracy and fascism will never take root again.
“In the past, the people forced Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League to flee after imposing a fascist regime,” he said. “If any undemocratic force tries to rise again, the people will once again unite to stop it.”
Salahuddin Ahmed emphasised that the people have regained control of the state, freeing the nation’s democracy from years of suppression.
“This democracy must be strengthened so that every citizen feels like a true owner of the country,” he said.
In his address, Salahuddin called for a strong turnout in the upcoming 12 February elections, urging the public to vote freely and fearlessly.
“After 17 long years, the people are finally going to cast their ballots in the democratic election they’ve long desired. BNP has fought for this right, shed blood, and lost lives in the process,” he added.
He also reflected on BNP’s historical contributions to Bangladesh’s development, independence, and sovereignty.
He praised Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for his lifelong struggle to protect the country’s freedom and democracy, expressing confidence that BNP would continue to work towards a prosperous, equitable, and just Bangladesh.
Urging voters to cast their ballots for the “Paddy Sheaf” symbol, Salahuddin emphasised, “BNP is the only viable alternative for development, progress, and democracy in Bangladesh.”
He also reaffirmed BNP’s commitment to the nation’s sovereignty, stating, “Those who have served foreign interests have already fled the country, and those who continue to engage in misleading politics will no longer find support from the people.”
In his closing remarks, Salahuddin rallied the crowd with the “Bangladesh First” slogan, promising that BNP’s policies would always prioritize the country’s interests above all.
He called on voters to come out in full force on 12 February and vote for democracy and national progress.
