State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit on Tuesday said inefficient use and mismanagement of resources pose a bigger challenge in the country’s health sector than resource shortages.
He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled “Revisiting Urban Health Systems: Research to Policy” in Gulshan.
BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health and CHORUS organised the event.
“A significant portion of existing resources remains underutilised or not fully utilised,” he said.
He said improving resource use and ensuring coordination between academic research and government policy are essential to strengthening public health.
He said health is not only freedom from disease but also physical and mental well-being.
He said advanced treatment alone is not sufficient if hospital environment and behaviour are not patient-friendly.
He said a people-oriented health system can be built only if public needs are properly reflected in government initiatives.
At the seminar, research findings were presented on better management of existing resources, strengthening data-driven capacity, and improving service delivery by reducing inequalities in urban health systems through coordinated public and private efforts.
