BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called upon Alim-Ulema (Islamic scholars) to remain vigilant against disorder in society.
He made this call while joining the Combined Imam-Khatib National Conference virtually at the China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Sunday.
Tarique Rahman said, “Disputes are seen among Islamic scholars over politics. Religious interpretations given for petty political interests bring disorder to society. The Alims must remain alert to ensure that no disorder is created in society.”
He further said, “The BNP has always been vocal in preventing activities that go against the interests of Islam and Muslims.”
At this time, he alleged that “a crackdown was carried out at Shapla Chattar like that of invading forces.”
Tarique Rahman said, “The long fifteen years of subservient rule have proven that there is no alternative to unity for protecting independence and sovereignty.” He sought the prayers and support of the Imams, Khatibs, and Muezzins for the upcoming election to build a just country.
Stating that progress is not possible by keeping Imams and Khatibs outside the state’s reform efforts, he further said, “The jobs of Imams and Muezzins should not depend on mosque committees. If the BNP can come to state power, it will prioritise the implementation of the Service Rules for Imams and Muezzins.”
