The Bangladesh Film Certification Board has been reconstituted, bringing a mix of returning and new members to the body responsible for approving films for public exhibition.
The new board came into effect immediately following a gazette notification published on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s website on January 14. The notification also confirmed that the previous board, formed in September 2034, has been dissolved.
Under the Bangladesh Film Certification Act, 2023, the board is chaired by the Senior Secretary or Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Its members include senior representatives from the Law and Justice Division, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office, along with the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.
Industry representation remains a key feature of the panel, with members drawn from film producers, directors, artistes and cinema hall owners’ associations. The reconstituted board also includes film editor Iqbal Ehsanul Kabir, director Khijir Hayat Khan, actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, director Tasmiah Afrin Mou, and the board’s vice-chairman.
Issued by order of the President and signed by Deputy Secretary Taslima Noor Hossain, the notification will remain in force until further notice.
