A day after Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) sweeping victory in West Bengal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised leaders within his own party and others for mocking the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and celebrating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s defeat.

He warned that the Opposition’s setback marked a significant advance for BJP in what he described as its broader attempt to undermine India’s democratic framework, reports Indian Express.

“Some in the Congress, and others, are gloating about TMC’s loss. They need to understand this clearly – the theft of Assam and Bengal’s mandate is a big step forward by the BJP in its mission to destroy Indian democracy. Put petty politics aside. This is not about one party or another. This is about India.”
