Supreme Court senior lawyer Barrister Raghib Rauf Chowdhury is likely to be appointed as the country’s next attorney general.

Multiple sources at the Law Ministry and related quarters confirmed the information.

Speculation has continued over the appointment of the state’s chief legal officer since the BNP formed the government.

Alongside Raghib Rauf Chowdhury, the names of Barrister Bodruddoza Badal and Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal have also been discussed.

However, sources said Raghib Rauf Chowdhury is set to receive the appointment.

His father, late Abdur Rauf Chowdhury, was a language movement activist and one of the organisers of the Liberation War.

Raghib Rauf Chowdhury completed his SSC from Kushtia Zilla School and HSC from Notre Dame College in Dhaka. He earned an honours degree in political science from Aligarh Muslim University in India and a master’s degree from the University of Dhaka.

He later obtained law degrees from two universities in the United Kingdom and was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, London.
