A truck transporting 30 cattle was hijacked in Ashulia, Savar, by a group of men who identified themselves as members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday near DEPZ on the Nabinagar–Chandra highway.
Police recovered the truck with all cattle unharmed from the Mymensingh bypass area at about 8am on Sunday, but the hijackers escaped before law enforcers arrived.
Police said the truck had left Bogura for Brahmanbaria on Saturday evening. When it reached the Ashulia DEPZ area, three microbuses intercepted it. The men inside the vehicles claimed to be RAB members, forced the driver, his assistant and three cattle traders off the truck, and fled with the vehicle.
Following the report, police launched an operation and traced the truck to the Mymensingh bypass road. However, the suspects had already fled.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hannan said the individuals involved have been identified and efforts to arrest them are underway.
