Jalal Uddin, a contractor with the Public Works Department in Cox’s Bazar, has been arrested in connection with a check fraud case. His arrest follows the issuance of a warrant for his capture.
The arrest took place around 11pm on Wednesday in the Baharchhara area of the city. Jalal Uddin is a resident of Baharchhara.
Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, Chhami Uddin, stated that Jalal Uddin was apprehended under a court order due to his involvement in the check fraud case.
According to sources from the police and the case, Jalal Uddin had been serving as the vice-president of the Public Works Contractors Welfare Association. He has been named as the main accused in a case filed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. The charges claim that Jalal Uddin caused financial damage through fraudulent practices involving check fraud.
In the wake of his arrest, social media has been abuzz with past allegations against him. Some users have accused him of using the political influence of the Awami League during the previous government to engage in land-grabbing activities. Additionally, it is claimed that he built a contracting company notorious for irregularities and corruption.
Jalal Uddin will be presented in court, according to the Sadar Model Police Station’s OC.
