Coast guard has seized a large quantity of urea fertilizer while it was being illegally smuggled to Myanmar. Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan disclosed this information on Saturday.
According to the Media Officer, Coast Guard Station Tazumuddin conducted a special operation based on a secret tip-off in Meghna River adjacent to Muktijoddha Bazar under Tazumuddin Police Station in Bhola.
During the drive, the coast guard team intercepted and searched a suspicious steel-bodied trawler.
They seized 160 sacks containing 8,000kg of urea fertilizer, worth approximately Tk240,000, which was being illegally transported to Myanmar, along with the steel-bodied trawler used for smuggling.
However, no arrests could be made as the smugglers managed to flee after sensing the presence of the coast guard.
The process of taking further legal action regarding the seized goods and the steel-bodied trawler is currently underway.
Sujan added that the coast guard will continue to conduct similar operations in the future to prevent smuggling and trafficking.
