The government has decided to purchase 365,000 tonnes of various types of fertilisers from different countries and organisations at a cost of Tk2,695 crore for the 2026-2027 financial year.
The approval was given on Monday at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Under the approved proposals, the government will procure 70,000 tonnes of Urea, 115,000 tonnes of MOP, 120,000 tonnes of DAP, and 60,000 tonnes of TSP fertiliser.
Urea Procurement The government will import 40,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agricultural Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia. The import will cost $380.83 per tonne, with the total expenditure amounting to Tk188 crore 66 lakh 31 thousand 820.
Additionally, 30,000 tonnes of urea will be purchased from Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited (KAFCO) for the 2026-27 financial year. The price is set at $359.50 per tonne, which includes an FOB price of $354.50 and a bagging charge of $5.
The total cost for this purchase will be Tk133.57 crore.
DAP procurement
Under an agreement between the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and OCP Nutricrops of Morocco, the government will import 80,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser in two equal phases of 40,000 tonnes each. The expenditure for the first phase is estimated at Tk443.6 crore, while the subsequent phase will cost Tk442.88 crore.
Moreover, 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser will be imported from Ma’aden, Saudi Arabia, under a BADC agreement. Priced at $891 per tonne, the total cost will stand at Tk440.33 crore.
TSP procurement
The government will also import 60,000 tonnes of TSP fertiliser in two phases of 30,000 tonnes each from OCP Nutricrops of Morocco under a BADC agreement.
The first phase of 30,000 tonnes, priced at $678 per tonne, will require an expenditure of Tk252.1 crore. The second phase of 30,000 tonnes will be imported at $668 per tonne, costing Tk248.19 crore.
MOP procurement
For MOP fertiliser, the government will import 35,000 tonnes from JSC Foreign Economic Corporation Prodintorg of Russia under a BADC agreement. At $383.80 per tonne, the purchase will cost Tk166 crore 43 lakh 48 thousand 700.
In addition, 80,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser will be imported from the Canadian Commercial Corporation in two phases of 40,000 tonnes each under a BADC agreement. With the price fixed at $383.80 per tonne, the first consignment will cost Tk190.13 crore, while the second consignment will cost Tk189.82 crore.
