The Internal Resources Division (IRD) has annulled the punishments of 20 officials who took part in the National Board of Revenue (NBR) reform movement.
Separate notifications were issued on Sunday following applications submitted to the president seeking clemency.
The officials include Imam Touhid Hasan Shakil (Deputy Commissioner, Tax Zone‑21, Dhaka), Mirza Ashiq Rana (Additional Tax Commissioner, Tax Zone‑Dinajpur), Monalisa Shahreen Sumita (Joint Tax Commissioner, Tax Zone‑Mymensingh), Md Mamun Mia (Joint Tax Commissioner, Tax Zone‑Jashore), Chand Sultana Chowdhurani (Additional Tax Commissioner, acting, Tax Zone‑Gazipur), Sultana Habib (Additional Tax Commissioner, acting, Tax Zone‑12, Dhaka), Murad Ahmed (Additional Tax Commissioner, Tax Zone‑Jashore), Mamuna Khatun (Joint Tax Commissioner, E‑Tax Management Unit, Dhaka), Mohammad Morshed Uddin Khan (Joint Tax Commissioner, Tax Zone‑Faridpur), Md Zillur Rahman, Md Shahadat Jamil, Shafiul Bashar (Revenue Officer, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Narayanganj).
Other officials are Sabuj Mia (Revenue Officer, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka North), Mohammad Saidul Islam (Deputy Commissioner, Customs Valuation and Internal Audit Commissionerate, Khulna), Md Zakir Hossain (Commissioner, acting, Customs Bond Commissionerate, Chattogram), Md Sanowarul Kabir (Joint Commissioner, Customs Bond Commissionerate, Chattogram), Sadhan Kumar Kundu (Additional Commissioner, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Gazipur), AAM Amimul Ihsan Khan (Additional Commissioner, Customs House, Chattogram), Sifat‑e‑Mariam (Additional Commissioner, Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka), and Hasan Muhammad Tarek Rikabdan (Additional Commissioner, Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, VAT, Dhaka).
The NBR reform movement in 2025 at one stage caused major disruption to the country’s import‑export activities. The movement was later withdrawn following mediation by business leaders.
Subsequently, the IRD took departmental action against 39 officials directly involved in the movement. Among them, three NBR members and one commissioner were sent into compulsory retirement.
