Popular Dhallywood actress Purnima has appeared in a new awareness documentary focusing on the devastating natural disaster that struck Bhola district in 1970 and the growing impact of climate change in Bangladesh.

The documentary has been directed by Gazi Mahbub, known for the film ‘Premer Taj Mahal’. Filming has already been completed, including scenes shot at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.

The project has been produced for the non-governmental development organisation Manobsur Unnayan Sangstha. Written and planned by the organisation’s CEO Sohrab Lavu, the documentary has been titled ‘Ostitter Lorai’.

“I liked the concept of the documentary, so I took part in it out of a sense of responsibility to raise awareness. I always want to be associated with good initiatives,” she said.

Director Gazi Mahbub said the documentary will highlight the tragic story of the 1970 flood in Bhola and explore what can be done to address natural disasters linked to climate change in present-day Bangladesh.

According to the director, the documentary will be screened as part of the Disaster Management Volunteer Training Programme for Building a Climate Resilient Bangladesh organised by Manobsur Unnayan Sangstha. It will also be released online.
