The Premier Bank PLC held a day-long BAMLCO Conference-2026 at its Learning and Talent Development Center at the head office in Banani to strengthen capacity in anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.

The conference was inaugurated by Premier Bank Chairman Dr Arifur Rahman, while Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit Executive Director and Deputy Head Md Mofizur Rahman Khan Chowdhury attended as chief guest. Independent Director M Nurul Alam CGIA and Managing Director current charge Md Monzur Mofiz were present as special guests, the bank said.

Addressing the conference, Md Mofizur Rahman Khan Chowdhury stressed the need for a strong, risk-based and sustainable compliance framework across the banking sector to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing. He highlighted the importance of continuous capacity building, effective transaction monitoring systems and timely identification, analysis and reporting of suspicious transactions.

In his inaugural remarks, Chairman Dr Arifur Rahman said compliance remains a core foundation of trust and sustainable growth in banking. He said Premier Bank continues to reinforce integrity and transparency by equipping officials with appropriate knowledge and tools. He also said practices such as expense inflation, often used in money laundering, have been eliminated, strengthening the bank’s compliance culture.

Managing Director current charge Md Monzur Mofiz said the bank would continue operating in strict adherence to policy guidelines issued by Bangladesh Bank and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit to ensure transparency, accountability and good governance.

Senior officials attending the conference included Deputy Managing Director Retail Banking S M Wali Ul Morshed, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer Mohammad Al Amin, SEVP CAMLCO acting Md Naquibul Islam and Deputy CAMLCO acting Sadia M Hannan CAMS, along with branch managers, branch AML compliance officers and head office officials. Around 150 participants took part.

During the programme, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit resource persons Shadril Ahmed, additional director, and Md Jaynul Abedeen, joint director, conducted sessions covering domestic laws, transaction monitoring, know-your-customer and enhanced due diligence challenges, regulatory reporting and risks linked to trade-based and credit-backed money laundering.
