BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has arrived in Chattogram to participate in a public rally organised on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament Election.
Around 5:49pm on Saturday, he left his residence at 196 Gulshan for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Then, around 7:15pm, he arrived in Chattogram by plane.
Party sources say that Tarique Rahman traveled to Chattogram via a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. On Sunday, he will participate in the party’s election campaign there.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will deliver a speech as the chief guest at Sunday’s grand rally. Centered around his visit to Chattogram after over two decades, immense enthusiasm and excitement have been observed among leaders and activists in the city and surrounding districts.
Organisers expect that several hundred thousand people will gather at the Polo Ground field, and the programme will be completed peacefully and in an orderly manner.
According to the announced itinerary, after arriving in Chattogram by air on Saturday evening, Tarique Rahman will stay there overnight. After delivering a speech at the public rally at Polo Ground field at 11:30am on Sunday, he will leave Chattogram in the afternoon.
Subsequently, he will participate in public rallies at Feni Pilot School field at 4pm, at Chauddagram High School field in Cumilla at 5:30pm, and at the Dighabazar field in Sujagat at 7pm. At 7:30pm on the same day, the BNP chairman will address another gathering at the central Eidgah field in Daudkandi.
On his way back to Dhaka, after participating in the final public rally at the Kanchpur Baliur field in Narayanganj at 11:30pm, he will return to his residence in Gulshan late at night.
Tarique Rahman last visited Chattogram in 2005. At that time, he was the Senior Joint Secretary General of the party. After that visit, he resided abroad for a long period. After assuming the role of BNP chairman in January of this year, party leaders are viewing this visit as the beginning of a new chapter in his political role.
