Students from Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and other technical institutions blocked the Satrasta intersection in Dhaka’s Tejgaon on Tuesday.
They began the blockade around 12pm, halting traffic and causing severe congestion.
Passengers and drivers have been suffering due to the protest.
The students staged the demonstration against a recommendation allowing BSc engineers, alongside diploma engineers, to be recruited for the post of sub‑assistant engineer in the 10th grade. They demanded that the government withdraw the recommendation.
A severe traffic jam was seen stretching from Satrasta to Kakrail in the city. Vehicles could not move through the connecting road in front of Sonargaon, which also affected nearby roads. Traffic coming from Mohakhali was diverted to alternative routes.
