Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said on Tuesday that unfair elections would no longer be tolerated in Bangladesh and warned that any attempt to pursue such a path would face resistance.
Addressing a public rally at the Katiadi Government College ground in Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj, he said there would be no more “backdoor” elections and vowed that all such routes would be shut.
The Jamaat ameer said the party did not seek victory for itself alone but for the country’s 180 million people, adding that a win for the people would be a victory for everyone.
He urged all concerned to respect the people’s verdict on 12 February and said Jamaat would be ready to congratulate whoever is elected through a fair vote.
Alleging that Tk28 lakh crore had been looted and siphoned off abroad, he said the money would be recovered and deposited in the state treasury to support development across the country.
