Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sazzat Ali stated that stringent security measures have been implemented for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
He made this statement during a crowded press conference held at the TSC area of Dhaka University on Monday afternoon.
Sazzat assured that this year’s DUCSU election will be held in a festive and secure atmosphere. To ensure safety, eight checkpoints will be set up at the entry points to Dhaka University. The DMP will also deploy 2,096 police personnel at the DU campus to help maintain law and order.
In addition to stationing security at voting centers, foot patrols and mobile patrol teams of the police will be deployed throughout the campus.
Plainclothes members of the Detective Branch (DB) will also be present, and the specialised unit of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) will remain on standby.
Furthermore, Commissioner Sazzat Ali informed that to maintain public order, the carrying and display of firearms and explosives will be strictly prohibited in the Dhaka University area and its surroundings from 8pm on September 8 until 12pm on September 11, except for law enforcement personnel.
In collaboration with the Dhaka University authorities and other law enforcement agencies, DMP will work to ensure that the DUCSU election is held in an unbiased, peaceful, and festive manner.
In response to a question from journalists, the DMP Commissioner also mentioned that the police are actively working to prevent any cyberbullying and online misinformation related to the DUCSU election.
The press conference was attended by DMP additional police commissioners, including SN Mohammad Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), Mohammad Masud Karim (CTTC), Mohammad Shafiqul Islam (DB), and Mohammad Shawkat Ali (Logistics), along with other senior DMP officials.
