A constable of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has been sent to jail on charges of raping a 12-year-old girl in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj.
The rape incident took place between Monday night and 4am on Tuesday. Later, the victim’s uncle filed a case at Bandar Police Station in the morning.
The accused, Md Ruhul Amin, 41, is a constable in the Dhanmondi Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to the case statement, the child worked as a domestic worker in a house in the Kalabagan area of Dhaka. On Monday afternoon, she left the house without informing anyone. Later, she encountered the accused, Ruhul Amin, on a road near Science Laboratory in Dhanmondi. After learning about the incident, he lured the child and took her to his rented house in Rupali area of Bandar, Narayanganj, where he raped her.
On Tuesday morning, while returning the child to Kalabagan, she began screaming when they reached the area near Railway Gate No. 2 of Sadar Police Station. Locals then apprehended the accused Ruhul Amin, beat him, and informed the police.
The police initially took him to Narayanganj Sadar Police Station. After the incident was reported to Bandar Police Station, Ruhul Amin was taken into custody.
When asked about the matter, Narayanganj’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarique Al Mehedi said, “In this case, the child’s uncle has filed a complaint. The victim has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for a medical examination. The accused police officer has been arrested and sent to jail through the court.”
