In a move highlighting fuel efficiency and streamlined protocol, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman travelled to the National Memorial in Savar on Thursday with a reduced convoy, saving an estimated 4,500 litres of fuel typically consumed for state events of this scale.

According to his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister left his Gulshan residence at dawn and arrived at the memorial at 5:53am to pay tribute to martyrs on Independence and National Day.

“Considering fuel savings, limited protocol, and fewer vehicles, the VIPs travelled by bus this time,” he explained.

For the first time since assuming office on 17 February, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official vehicle carried the national flag. The flag adorned his car as he travelled to and from the memorial. Until now, he had been using his personal white car, which does not bear either the national or prime ministerial flag.

On arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan. Other members of the Cabinet, the three service chiefs, and senior officials made the journey separately by bus, reflecting a more streamlined approach to official visits.

The reduced convoy not only emphasised efficiency and responsible use of state resources but also showcased the symbolic display of the national flag on the Prime Minister’s official vehicle for the first time since taking office.
