Sixteen years after its establishment, Jashore Medical College is set to get its own hospital. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday inaugurated the construction of the 500-bed Jashore Medical College Hospital.
Prime Minister said “The government is working to ensure healthcare services reach people’s doorsteps to build a healthy and strong nation.”
“There is a plan to provide treatment at private institutions under government arrangements” he added.
He also said “Healthcare remains costly worldwide.”
He stressed the need to increase disease prevention alongside treatment.
“The number of patients must be reduced gradually” he added.
To achieve this, he announced “1 lakh new health workers will be recruited, with 80 percent of them being women. These workers will be deployed across the country. They will raise awareness among female heads of families about nutrition and food quality.”
“Improved dietary habits will help prevent diseases and reduce pressure on hospitals” he also mentioned.
After inaugurating the re-excavation of the Ulashi canal in Sharsha, the Prime Minister travelled by road to the Jashore Medical College campus. He got down from a vehicle marked ‘Bangladesh First’ and exchanged greetings with attendees.
He then went to the stage, received a briefing on the hospital project, and formally launched the construction by pressing a button.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Anindya Islam Amit conducted the event. Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain Bakul also spoke at the programme.
BNP Vice Chairman Nargis Begum, Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, and local Members of Parliament were present.
