Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit three flood-affected upazilas in Chattogram – Hathazari, Fatickchari, and Banshkhali on 9 August.
Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Saleh Shibli, confirmed that the visit has been finalised. During the tour, the prime minister will distribute relief materials to flood victims and hand over newly constructed houses to families who lost their homes during the deluge.
According to official plans, a public meeting and relief distribution programme will be held in West Banshkhali.
At this location, the prime minister will formally hand over 100 houses, which were rebuilt with government assistance, to the affected families. Suitable locations are currently being prepared for helipad construction to facilitate the Prime Minister’s arrival.
This marks Tarique’s first visit to Chattogram since assuming the office of prime minister. The local administration has initiated extensive preparations to coordinate the visit, with the construction of many houses for displaced families already nearing completion.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Chattogram, Mohammad Sharif Uddin, said while a detailed official schedule is still pending, the administration has taken all necessary steps to ensure a smooth visit.
The announcement has also generated significant enthusiasm within political circles. Idris Mia, convener of Chattogram South District BNP, said party members are eagerly preparing to welcome the prime minister to the region.
