Prime Minister Tarique Rahman began his first day in office at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, and senior officials of the Cabinet Division welcomed him warmly.
Rahman took charge of his designated office on the third floor of the Secretariat’s new Number 1 building around noon.
Security was tightened from early morning, with strict checks at all entry points before officials and staff were allowed inside.
The prime minister held several key engagements on his first day. Around 3pm, he chaired the inaugural meeting of the new cabinet in the ministry conference room of the same building.
While primarily an introductory session, the meeting was expected to cover initial government priorities and strategies for implementing election pledges.
Around 4pm, he was scheduled to meet with secretaries of various ministries for a special discussion, reportedly to provide guidance on ensuring administrative efficiency and discipline.
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was sworn in as prime minister on Tuesday, following his party’s victory in more than 200 seats in the 12 February national election, marking the party’s return to power after nearly 20 years.
