Prime Minister Tarique Rahman reached Matarbari, Maheshkhali of Cox’s Bazar, by helicopter Sunday morning to inspect the deep‑sea port and other development projects.
His helicopter landed near Matarbari at 10:52am, said Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon. State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit received him on arrival.
The prime minister is accompanied by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, and Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood, among others. He left Tejgaon Airport at 9:15am with his entourage.
During the visit, he will inspect the deep‑sea port, the coal‑fired power project, and activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority. This is his first trip to Matarbari since his becoming prime minister.
After Matarbari, he will visit flood‑hit areas of Chattogram. At 12:20pm, he is scheduled to attend a rehabilitation programme at West Banshkhali High School and College ground, where new homes will be handed over to flood‑affected families.
Later, he will travel to Fatikchhari to meet Hefazat‑e‑Islam chief Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari at Babunagar Madrasa.
Around 3:15pm, he will visit Hathazari’s Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa and pay respects at the grave of late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi. He will then attend another flood rehabilitation programme at Hathazari Government College ground around 5pm.
In the evening, Tarique, also BNP chairman, will join an organisational meeting with party leaders and activists at Radisson Blu Hotel, Chattogram Bay View.
He is scheduled to return to Dhaka by air from Shah Amanat International Airport around 9:30pm.
