Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday enquired about the wellbeing of Bangladeshi nationals residing in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

The Prime Minister arrived at his Secretariat office at 9:10am to conduct a series of high-level meetings regarding regional stability and domestic disaster readiness.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman met with the prime minister at the Secretariat on Sunday morning to provide updates on the situation. Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir was also present during the briefing.

According to Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Tarique sought specific information regarding the conditions of Bangladeshis in various Middle Eastern countries affected by the Iranian conflict and issued necessary directives to ensure their safety.

The meeting also addressed the disruption of air travel, as numerous flights to the Middle East have been cancelled.

The additional press secretary noted that the prime minister is personally and constantly monitoring the management of passengers stranded at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Following the prime minister’s instructions, the Civil Aviation Minister and the state minister are actively overseeing airport operations. The state minister has been stationed at the airport since the morning to manage the situation.

Additionally, the Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare remains fully engaged in these efforts.

In a separate session focused on domestic safety, Disaster Management Minister Asadul Habib Dulu met with the Prime Minister to discuss disaster readiness.

he said, Tarique Rahman prioritised post-earthquake disaster management, ordering the formulation of a comprehensive action plan.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Asadul Habib Dulu stated Tarique has directed the authorities to prepare 1 lakh volunteers in Dhaka to specifically tackle post-earthquake disaster scenarios.

Tarique also held a meeting with the Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources later in the day.
