Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is utilising the Eid holidays to attend to urgent government affairs from his Gulshan residence, following up on electoral pledges and monitoring key development initiatives across the country.
Despite the official Eid break that began on Tuesday and will continue until 23 March, the prime minister has been actively overseeing various government matters, including the appointment of administrators for Dhaka’s city corporations and district councils.
The prime minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman said the PM is gathering information on the progress of nationwide canal digging programmes, a key electoral commitment, and maintaining contact with concerned ministers to ensure proper monitoring.
“He is seeking information regarding the status of canal digging programmes across the country, whether the work is ongoing, and speaking with the concerned ministers to learn if monitoring is taking place,” Ruman told reporters.
The prime minister has also been in touch with mayors and administrators to ensure cleanliness in city corporations during the holiday period.
Ruman added that the PM has spoken with concerned ministers and state ministers to inquire about the Eid journey and the situation of people travelling home for the festival.
On Tuesday, despite it being a government holiday, the prime minister worked at the Secretariat, chaired a meeting of the Farmer’s Card Implementation Committee, and attended cabinet sessions.
The Eid holidays began on March 17 and will continue until 23 March.
