Prime Minister Tarique Rahman shared the joy of Eid‑ul‑Adha with members of the Bangladesh Army on Thursday, exchanging greetings and joining them for an Eid feast at Dhaka Cantonment.
He was welcomed at the venue by Quartermaster General Lieutenant General Mohammad Shahinul Haque. Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) AKM Shamsul Islam, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, Commander of the 46 Independent Infantry Brigade Brigadier General Syed Ashiqur Rahman, and Commanding Officer of the 25 East Bengal Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Md Shafiqul Islam were also present.
Addressing the assembled troops, the prime minister said he was deeply moved to return after many years to the cantonment area filled with memories. He described the discipline, and sincerity of the soldiers as especially memorable.
Expressing pride in Bangladesh Army’s professional standards, sense of duty, and tradition of standing by the people in times of disaster and national need, Tarique said, “In defending the country’s independence, sovereignty and the security of its people, the Bangladesh Army has always served as a symbol of trust for the state. Its contribution in times of national crisis and in the march of development will remain remembered by the nation.”
He also expressed hope that every member of the Army would continue to serve the nation with the same dedication, professionalism and patriotism in the future.
After the feast, the premier visited the soldiers’ lines, planted a sapling in the unit compound, signed the inspection book, and joined officers, JCOs and soldiers for a photo session. He later performed the Zuhr prayers with the troops.
Earlier in the morning, after offering Eid prayers at the National Eidgah, PM Tarique visited Banani Military Graveyard to pay respects to the martyred Army officers killed in the BDR mutiny. He pArmyrayed for the forgiveness of their souls.
