Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered urgent repairs of dilapidated roads in Pirojpur to restore smooth traffic movement and ease public hardship.
The directive came during a meeting held at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat on Tuesday, where progress, challenges and future actions related to development projects under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in the district were reviewed, according to the Prime Minister’s press wing.
Officials presented updates on both ongoing and completed LGED projects.
During the discussion, allegations of irregularities and corruption in project implementation during the tenure of the Awami League government were raised, with claims that some former lawmakers and officials had been involved.
The prime minister instructed authorities to take swift measures to repair damaged roads to reduce the suffering of residents. He also underscored the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in executing development works.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving road connectivity nationwide, Tarique Rahman said neglected and long-damaged roads must be brought under immediate repair and maintenance.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, Members of Parliament Masood Sayeedi (Pirojpur-1) and Ruhul Amin Dulal (Pirojpur-3), Local Government Division Secretary Shahidul Hasan, and other senior officials.
