A businessman in the capital’s Eastern Housing area has filed a General Diary (GD) at Rupnagar Police Station, alleging that he was brutally attacked by unidentified assailants following a long-standing business dispute and old enmity.
The victim, Nazrul Islam, a local trader, reported that he had been threatened multiple times in recent weeks before the attack finally took place on 30 April.
According to the GD filed on Sunday, Nazrul Islam first received a threatening phone call on 29 April around 11pm from an unknown mobile number.
“The caller demanded that I leave the area immediately and also issued direct death threats,” the complaint states.
The very next day, on 30 April, around 7:30pm, Nazrul Islam was on his way to attend to business work in the K-Block area of Eastern Housing when he was ambushed.
According to the complaint, unidentified assailants who had been lying in wait blocked his path and attacked him indiscriminately with sticks and iron rods.
The businessman sustained severe injuries in the assault, including deep bruises and wounds on multiple parts of his body. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing his screams, at which point the attackers fled.
Neighbours rescued the injured trader and arranged primary medical treatment for him. Following his recovery, Nazrul Islam filed the GD at Rupnagar Police Station on Sunday.
The victim alleged that the accused individuals are influential in the local area, which has left him and his family in a state of extreme insecurity.
“We fear further attacks at any moment,” he said.
Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that they are investigating the matter based on the complaint. However, no arrests have been reported as of Tuesday evening.
Authorities have assured that necessary legal action will be taken once the investigation identifies those responsible for the attack.
