Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim, Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Charmonai Pir, stated that the people of the country will compel the government to establish the legal foundation of the July Charter and arrange elections under the proportional representation (PR) system before the polls.
He made these remarks while delivering the chief guest’s speech at a Seerat Conference organised by Islami Jubo Andolan Dhaka Metropolis at the Zahur Hossain Hall of the National Press Club on Monday.
Syed Rezaul Karim said, “After August 5, when misleading information about minorities was being spread in Indian media, it was the believers in Islamic principles and ideals who took on the responsibility of protecting their lives, properties, and places of worship. When administrative systems came to a halt, they stepped onto the streets to manage traffic. This is the reality of our ideals. In contrast, traditional political parties were busy with extortion, tender manipulation, legal trade-offs, and internal conflicts. They prioritised their own interests over the nation’s.”
He added, “For 53 years, we have witnessed farcical elections. We no longer want the culture of daytime voting being boxed up at night, or seizing polling centers to forcibly claim victory. This system has left many mothers bereaved and many lives crippled.”
The Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh said, “Various things are being said against us. It is claimed that we suddenly appeared out of nowhere. However, not a single one of our members became an MP with MPO benefits in the past 15 years. This does not mean we had no opportunities. Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party – all offered us a share of power. But we refused and stood on the side of justice.”
