Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Tayeb has inaugurated the Cleanliness Awareness Campaign-2025 with the theme “Let’s Keep Chattogram City Clean” at the Independent University in Chattogram.
The event was organised today through a joint initiative of Chattogram Independent University (CIU), Youngone Corporation, and the Korean EPZ, with the support of Chattogram City Corporation.
In his speech as the chief guest, Faiz Ahmad Tayeb stated, “I thank the city residents, civil society, citizens’ groups, students, teachers, and city administration for taking effective steps to resolve waterlogging in Chattogram. We are working with three R’s: Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse. To manage waste, we can use two-colored bin bags – one for biodegradable waste and the other for non-biodegradable waste – to facilitate proper disposal. If anyone fails to use them, a penalty system should be implemented. Without penalties, waste management will not improve. Moreover, it is now imperative to start producing compost and electricity from waste.”
He further emphasised, “Awareness, participation, and collective efforts are essential to building a clean city.” He called on the younger generation to take a leading role in raising public awareness and actively contributing to urban cleanliness and environmental protection.
As the special guest, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Dr Shahadat Hossain remarked, “There is no alternative to joint efforts in building a modern and healthy Chattogram. Urban planning is indispensable for creating a well-planned city.”
Kihak Sung, chairman and CEO of Youngone Corporation and Korean EPZ, said, “We want this city to be clean and beautiful, which is why we are part of this initiative. Our 60,000 workers will assist you in this effort.”
The event was presided over by Professor Dr MM Nurul Absar, Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram Independent University. Attendees included Lutfe M Ayub, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, Syed Mahmudul Haque, MA Malek, Editor of the Daily Azadi, Engineer Md Nurul Karim, Chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), along with teachers and students from various schools and CIU.
