Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar urged voters to come to polling stations and exercise their democratic right, saying the outcome of the election ultimately lies in the hands of Allah.
Parwar spoke to reporters after casting his vote at the West Shiromoni Government Primary School polling centre in Fulchhari’s Ward No. 8 at around 8am on Thursday.
He said voting at his centre was proceeding smoothly.
“Voting is taking place properly at my centre. However, it is difficult to comment on the overall situation across the country at this time,” he said.
The Jamaat leader reiterated that the party’s duty is to convey its message to the people, explaining the kind of Bangladesh they envision.
“Victory or defeat is the will of Allah. Our duty is to reach people with our message – what kind of Bangladesh we want to build. We have been trying to do this for a long time.
The future leadership of Bangladesh will be decided through the people’s vote,” he added.
Parwar also urged voters to support the referendum with a “yes” vote, stating that Jamaat supports the implementation of the July Charter.
He expressed hope that the election will help build a Bangladesh free from partisan politics, corruption, and the suppression of dissent.
“We are urging people to vote ‘yes’ to change the authoritarian governance system. Through this election, we can build a corruption-free, inclusive Bangladesh where dissent is respected,” he said.
