Pakistani pop icon Hasan Jahangir has finally addressed long-standing rumours that legendary Bollywood actor Rekha once wrote him a love letter, offering a characteristically cryptic response while recalling the immense popularity he enjoyed in India.
Speaking on a recent podcast, ARY News reported that Jahangir was asked whether Rekha had sent him a love letter after his chart-topping hit Hawa Hawa became a sensation across South Asia. Smiling at the question, the singer avoided a direct answer, saying, “Love can happen at any age. Some things are meant to remain private. I received tremendous love in India and never had any problems there.”
Jahangir, who launched his music career in 1986, rose to international fame with Hawa Hawa, one of South Asia’s most iconic pop songs. He also earned acclaim for tracks including Hato Bacho and Pyar Pakistan. He said his success won him admiration from several Indian film personalities, including Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and many others. He added that he is currently working on new music projects, which are expected to be released soon.
The singer also said he continues to share warm relationships with several Indian stars, including Madhuri Dixit, Govinda, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Mithun Chakraborty. “We have a great relationship and often exchange affectionate messages,” he said.
Jahangir further revealed that he had received offers to play the lead role in five or six Indian films but chose to turn them down, a decision he now regrets.
“I was offered several films as the lead actor alongside stars such as Neelam, Madhuri and other prominent actresses. I declined those offers and returned to Pakistan. Looking back, any of those films could have become major hits,” he said.
