At least 17 people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, officials said.
According to AFP report, the accident took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a passenger bus travelling from Swat to Peshawar developed a mechanical fault and stopped on the roadside.
Passengers got down from the bus and were waiting nearby when a van lost control and crashed into the crowd and the parked vehicle.
Rescue official Bilal Ahmad Faizi said at least 17 people died in the incident, while more than 10 others suffered injuries. He added that three of the injured were in critical condition.
Muhammad Ali, a doctor at a local hospital treating the victims, also confirmed the death toll.
Many of the passengers were travelling home ahead of Eid, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan due to weak enforcement of traffic laws, reckless driving, speeding and poor road safety standards.
