Pakistan national cricket team have lodged an official complaint with match referee Neeyamur Rashid over a controversial review taken by Bangladesh national cricket team during the closing moments of the third ODI in Mirpur.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Pakistan’s management believe Bangladesh opted for the review only after a replay of the delivery had already been shown on the stadium’s big screen.
The incident occurred on the penultimate ball of the match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium with Pakistan needing 12 runs from two deliveries. Rishad Hossain delivered a leg-side ball to Shaheen Shah Afridi which was initially called a wide by on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena.
After a brief discussion, Bangladesh chose to review the decision for lbw. Pakistan’s contention is that the decision to review came after the replay appeared on the big screen, which may have influenced the call — something normally prohibited under review protocols.
Standard procedure requires teams to decide on a review before replays are shown to players to prevent outside influence. Pakistan have also raised concerns that the review may have been taken beyond the permitted 15-second window, although no visible timer was shown on the broadcast.
When the decision went to the Decision Review System, UltraEdge showed a spike as the ball passed the toe of Afridi’s bat, indicating contact. Bangladesh therefore lost the lbw review, but the wide call was overturned, leaving Pakistan needing 12 runs from the final delivery.
Afridi was then stumped by Litton Das on the last ball, sealing an 11-run victory for Bangladesh and a 2–1 ODI series win.
Pakistan are understood to want at least a public clarification on the decision from match officials.
