Former German football star Mesut Özil and Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan, son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday to visit Rohingya refugee camps.

Leading a 13-member delegation, the pair arrived at Cox’s Bazar Airport via a private flight from Dhaka around 10:30am. Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner A Mannan and Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman received them.

The one-day official visit is aimed at reviewing the current humanitarian situation of the Rohingya refugees and evaluating ongoing aid activities.

According to sources related to the visit, the delegation is scheduled to participate in a coordination meeting at the office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC).

Following the meeting, they will visit Rohingya camps 4, 5, 9, 16, and 17 located in Ukhiya.

The delegation also includes Abdullah Eren, president of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), and Turkish Ambassador Ramis Sen, alongside various high-ranking officials, business leaders, and media representatives. Upon concluding their inspection of the camps, the guests are expected to attend an Iftar event at the Tika Kitchen Centre in Ghumdhum Yahya Garden.
