French Ambassador Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet has visited Cox’s Bazar to observe the ongoing humanitarian assistance being provided to Rohingya refugees and host communities.
Over his two-day visit, the ambassador inspected a range of programmes run by international agencies, according to a press statement issued on Wednesday.
The statement said he visited ACTED and Action Against Hunger, where he observed activities covering nutrition and health services, water, sanitation and hygiene, food security and livelihoods, and disaster-risk reduction. These services continue to play a vital role for vulnerable families living in overcrowded camps.
He also toured Friendship Hospital Ukhiya, a specialised facility for mothers and children. While there, he attended the handover of Ukrainian sunflower oil under the “Grain from Ukraine” initiative.
During the visit, the ambassador observed an LPG distribution point and visited a local production centre where communities are producing jute-based goods, showcasing the potential for sustainable, community-driven livelihoods.
The statement said the ambassador reiterated France’s appreciation for Bangladesh’s continued efforts in hosting Rohingya refugees. It added that France remains committed to supporting humanitarian operations and pursuing a durable international solution to the crisis, reflected in its recent vote in favour of a UN resolution addressing the situation.
He also thanked the Grain from Ukraine initiative for supplying sunflower oil, noting that the assistance not only supports vulnerable communities in Bangladesh but also strengthens the livelihoods of Ukrainian farmers amid Russia’s war of aggression.
