More than 50 leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Tangail on Monday.
The joining programme was held in the afternoon at the election office of Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, BNP publicity secretary and the party-nominated candidate for the Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency.
The new entrants were formally received by Sultan Salahuddin Tuku at the event.
Those who joined the BNP included former Sadar upazila Jatiya Party general secretary Abu Sayeed Azad, former Hugra union organising secretary Mofizur Rahman, former Ward No 5 president Abdul Latif, former Magra union general secretary Mahbub Hasan, and Ward No 5 president Jinnah Khan, along with many others.
The leaders and activists who joined said they had resigned from the Jatiya Party and joined the BNP to work for the election of Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, the candidate of the “sheaf of paddy” symbol.
They said they would work in unity to ensure his victory.
Tangail district BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shaheen and former district BNP member secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, among others, were present at the programme.
