Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called on members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) to carry out their responsibilities with honesty, professionalism and impartiality to ensure a free, fair and peaceful 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Addressing the passing-out parade of the 41st BCS (Ansar) cadre officers, the basic training of newly appointed thana and upazila trainers, and the basic training of the 26th and 27th batches of Ansar Battalion at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy in Shafipur, Gazipur on Monday, the adviser warned against any unethical, biased or unauthorised activities that could influence or disrupt the electoral process.
He said a total of 5,55,958 Ansar-VDP members would be deployed at 42,766 polling centres across the country, with 13 personnel assigned to each centre.
The deployment will include three armed members, six unarmed male members and four unarmed female members. As part of additional security measures, one armed member at each polling centre will remain on duty alongside the presiding officer throughout the election.
To further strengthen security, 1,191 Ansar Battalion striking force teams, each comprising 10 members, will be stationed nationwide, bringing the total number of striking force personnel to 11,910, he added.
The home adviser said the Ansar and VDP had been undertaking coordinated preparations since August 2025 to ensure a transparent, peaceful and festive election environment.
Under a revised training policy, basic training has already been provided to about 56,000 upazila and thana-level company Ansars, 255,000 VDP and TDP members, and more than 3,000 Ansar Battalion personnel. He also noted that around 4,50,000 members have been enlisted for election duties through the STDMS software system.
Describing corruption as the state’s biggest enemy, Md Jahangir Alam said it undermines institutions and erodes public trust. He urged newly inducted members to enter service with integrity, ethical values, professionalism and a strong commitment to public service.
Referring to reforms undertaken by the interim government, he said measures have been taken to ensure accountability through digital management, professional development, welfare initiatives, administrative restructuring and infrastructure development. These steps, he expressed hope, would further strengthen the Ansar and VDP as the country’s largest disciplined force.
The adviser also highlighted initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of grassroots Ansar-VDP members, including the ‘Sanjeevan’ project. He said institutions such as the Ansar-VDP Welfare Trust, the Ansar-VDP Development Bank and the Ansar-VDP Cooperative are playing a vital role not only in supporting Ansar members but also in improving the livelihoods of the wider population nationwide.
Earlier, the home adviser inspected the parade, took the salute and distributed awards among four best trainees in four categories.
The award recipients were Assistant Director Shamim Reza of the 41st BCS Ansar Cadre, Upazila Trainer Sohanur Rahman Russell, Sepoy Md Selim Shahriar of the 26th batch and Sepoy Md Maruf Rana of the 27th batch.
A record 3,237 trainees completed the passing-out parade this year, the highest number to date. Among them were 15 officers of the 41st BCS Ansar Cadre, 88 Upazila trainers, 1,010 members from the 26th Ansar Battalion batch and 2,124 members from the 27th batch.
