Osman Hadi, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha, has been grievously injured in a shooting incident in the capital’s Bijoynagar culvert road area.
He was shot by unidentified assailants and has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital emergency room in a critical condition.
The incident occurred shortly after Friday’s Jumma prayers. The situation was confirmed by DMCH Police Outpost in-charge Mohammad Faruk.
He stated that Osman Hadi was brought to the hospital shortly after 2:30pm and was shot under his left ear. His condition is critical, and he is currently undergoing treatment in the emergency department.
Hadi, who is running for the parliamentary seat, was shot during his election campaign. He was actively participating in his campaign and was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency department, confirmed Israfil Forazi, a key organiser of July Oikya.
On 14 November, he posted on Facebook, revealing that he had been threatened with death, arson at his home, and sexual violence against his mother, sister, and wife.
Hadi also stated that he had received calls and texts from at least 30 foreign numbers, warning him of continuous surveillance and violence.
