The dengue situation in the country continues to deteriorate, with one further death and 473 new patients hospitalised in the last 24 hours.
According to the report from Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue cases from 1 January to 19 July has reached 10,485, while the total death toll has climbed to 34.
Statistics from the directorate reveal that among those hospitalised in the last 24 hours, the highest number was recorded in Dhaka (outside the city corporations) with 165 admissions, followed by 81 in Dhaka metropolitan.
Other regional hospitalisations include 75 in Barishal, 66 in Khulna, 63 in Chattogram, 42 in Rangpur, 36 in Mymensingh, 23 in Rajshahi, and 3 in Sylhet. The sole fatality recorded in the past 24 hours occurred within Dhaka South City Corporation area.
A division-wise analysis of data since the beginning of the year shows that Dhaka remains the most affected, with 3,811 cases and 18 deaths.
This is followed by Barishal with 2,528 cases (2 deaths), Chattogram with 1,822 cases (4 deaths), Khulna with 1,382 cases (4 deaths), Mymensingh with 396 cases (5 deaths), and Rajshahi with 347 cases (1 death). Notably, Rangpur (116 cases) and Sylhet (83 cases) have yet to record any deaths from the disease.
The DGHS further said that 1,011 dengue patients are currently receiving treatment at various government and private hospitals across the country. Meanwhile, a total of 9,440 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals to date.
