Oindrila Ahmed was once a regular performer on Bangladesh Television (BTV), both as an actress and a presenter. She began hosting on the channel as a child and later fronted several cooking programmes on private television channels. However, she had not hosted on BTV again until last Ramadan, when she returned to the channel after nearly two decades. Continuing that association, Oindrila is presenting two shows on BTV this year as well.
Known for being selective about her hosting work, Oindrila says she only agrees to projects that come with a clear script and plan. This Ramadan, she is hosting ‘Anonder Iftar’, which airs daily on BTV at 1:30 pm. In addition, a cooking show presented by her will be broadcast during the first four days of the upcoming Eid. While she will appear on BTV in these two programmes, she is set to join other channels as a guest.
Although she is frequently seen as a presenter on various television channels, Oindrila is not equally active in acting. Explaining the reason, she said, “I have a full-time corporate job and it is very difficult to find time for acting while balancing work and family. Even if I want to, it often does not work out. Moreover, the stories or characters offered do not always appeal to me. If I receive a strong script and an interesting role, I would certainly consider acting. I have also been offered a few advertisements, but I could not manage the time. I feel more comfortable presenting, which is why I prioritise it.”
Though she is not currently a regular on-screen actor, Oindrila remains active behind the scenes as a producer. Through her own production company, she has produced several dramas, some of which have been well received by audiences.
Oindrila has also revealed plans to make a film about her late father, the celebrated actor Bulbul Ahmed. She intends to focus on the project once her son’s examinations are over.
