A prayer gathering (doa mahfil) was held seeking forgiveness for the souls of BNP’s founder, late President Ziaur Rahman, and three-time prime minister, late Begum Khaleda Zia, and for the recovery of BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

The doa and milad mahfil was organized by former and current Chhatra Dal leaders.

The prayer gathering was held on Sunday at the Central Mosque of Bangladesh Medical University (PG Hospital).

Presiding over the doa mahfil was Tauhidur Rahman Awal, a member of the BNP Membership Collection and Renewal Committee and Central Chhatra Dal Joint Secretary. Present at the gathering were the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Abul Kalam Azad, former chairman of the Cardiology Department Professor Dr Shafiuddin Ahmed, and other leaders.

In his presidential speech, Dr Awal said, “Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was committed to freeing Begum Khaleda Zia. He stayed at the Naya Paltan central office for 787 consecutive days. He went home only after Begum Khaleda Zia was freed. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has set a unique example of respect for the supreme leader. Loving democracy and the ‘Mother of Democracy’, he did not take care of his own health. On 22 December 1984, he was shot by the autocrat Ershad but never compromised. While working tirelessly to ensure BNP’s victory in the election, he contracted viral pneumonia on February 10th. Prayers were offered at the doa mahfil for the complete recovery of Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, a lifelong party-devoted soul, and for the forgiveness of the souls of Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, and the countrymen were earnestly requested to pray.”
