An Indian crew member has been killed in an attack on a US-owned crude oil tanker near Basra, Iraq. The incident occurred on Wednesday, confirmed by the Indian embassy in Baghdad.
In a post on social media platform X, the embassy stated that 15 other Indian crew members were aboard the vessel, named “Safe Sea Vishnu”, which sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands. They have been evacuated to a safe location.
The embassy further stated that it is maintaining regular contact with the rescued Indian sailors. Simultaneously, coordination is ongoing with Iraqi authorities, and all necessary assistance is being provided.
